Open the run dialog (start > run).
Type "Control Userpasswords2" without quotes and click ok.
In the resulting User Accounts dialog box, uncheck the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box.
Click the apply button.

If you want to hide certain control panel icons, you can easily do it by editing the control.ini file.
The control.ini file is present in the c:/windows.
Just open the file.
Initially the control.ini file will be empty.
If you want to hide a control panel icon in control panel, just add the
[don't load] tag followed by the name of the control panel file and then save the file.
For example :
[don't load]
access.cpl=no
The above will hide the accessibility options from control panel.
You can re enable the icon file by removing the corresponding line if you have multiple entries.
You can search for all the files with the extension .cpl, to know the names of the control panel file which you want to hide, using the control.ini file.
Note that you will have to reboot the system for the changes to take effect.

1) Go to Start --> Run, then type Regedit
2) Navigate to the registry folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL
3) Find a key called CheckedValue.
4) Double Click CheckedValue key and modify it to 1. This is to show all the hidden files.
Now you should be able to view all the hidden files, and also to alter its status from folder options.

To fix this kind of problem follow these easy steps to make your USB device work again.
1. If you are using cable to connect your USB device to your computer, check the cable to make sure it is compatible and matches up with the speed of your device. Swap cables and check the device, if this does not work, proceed to the next step.
2. Open your Device Manager, look for USB Serial Bus Controllers. If you find a device with a yellow exclamation mark next to it such as USB Mass Storage Device. Check the device status by Double-click on the entry. If it shows something like “This device cannot start. (Code 10)” then proceed to the next step
3. The easiest way to fix a Code 10 error is to remove and reinstall all USB controllers, Here are the ways to do that:
- Right Click on My Computer, Then select Properties
- Click on the Hardware tab
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
- Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then remove them by uninstalling them one at a time.
- Restart your computer, and allow your computer to reinstall the USB controllers.
- Plug in again your storage device, and then test to make sure that the problem is resolved.

Here how you verify system uptime:
Step1: Click Start->Run and type cmd to open a command prompt. At the prompt, type systeminfo.
Step2: Scroll down the list of information to the line that says System Up Time.
This will tell you in days, hours, minutes and seconds how long the system has been up.
Note: This command only works in XP Professional not in XP Home. You can however type net statistics workstation at the prompt in Home. The first line will tell you the day and time that the system came online

Please be very careful when u press Ctrl + C ..
Here is some useful information for all.
Ctrl+C may be the most important work we do everyday. But it's not a very safe thing to do.
Read on to know why.
What happens when you press Ctrl+C while you are Online... We do copy various data by
Ctrl + C for copying & pasting elsewhere.
This copied data is stored in clipboard and is accessible from the net by a combination of Javascripts and ASP.
Just try this:
- Copy any text by Ctrl + C
- Click the Link: http://www.sourcecodesworld.com/special/clipboard.asp
- You will see the text you copied was accessed by this web page.
Do not keep sensitive data (like passwords, credit card numbers, PIN etc.) in the clipboard while surfing the web. It is extremely easy to extract the text stored in the clipboard to steal your sensitive information.

As the size of hardrives increase, more people are using partitions to seperate and store groups of files.
XP uses the C:\Program Files directory as the default base directory into which new programs are installed if your OS is installed in C: drive and so on. However, you can change the default installation drive and/ or directory by using a Registry hack.
So let's assume that your system directory is C: drive.
Run the Registry Editor (regedit) and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
Look for the value named ProgramFilesDir. by default, this value will be C:\Program Files. Edit the value to any valid drive or folder and XP will use that new location as the default installation directory for new programs.

NumLock does not toggle on by default (system-wide), even if you have it set in your PC's BIOS, because of XP's multi-user functionality. Guess Microsoft doesn't know everyone actually turns it on, which should be reason enough for what acts as "default"...
Anyway, you can hack the Windows Registry to change this behavior, or run a script at logon to turn NumLock on.
1. To enable NumLock through the Registry:
* Open Windows' Registry Editor (START > RUN, type "REGEDIT").
*. Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.
*. Change the value for InitialKeyboardIndicators from 0 to 2.
2. To enable NumLock using a script, see this MS Knowledgebase article for complete instructions:
CODE:
http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q262625
Option 1 is the quicker method, but if you have more than one user on your system and one or more don't want NumLock on (stranger things have been known of),
then option 2 is the way to go since it allows you to only attach the script to specific users.
